Heritage at Risk: Kilshannig Church and Graveyard Adapting to a Changing Climate

21 Lúnasa, 2:15in - 4in

  • The Club Rooms Castlegregory
  • Tailor's Row
  • V92 FH32
  • Co. Ciarraí

This event aims to explore how climate change is likely to impact on 13th Century Kilshannig Church and Graveyard. With expert and evidence-based input from the Heritage Council-funded Conservation Management Plan by Carrig Conservation and also from the SEA-CCHange research programme; the question of how the Maharees community can take action to protect this beautiful and cherished site, in the face of climate impacts to come, will be explored. Maharees Conservation Association will present updates on participation in the Adopt a Monument Scheme, on the Maharees Community Vision and Climate Adaptation Plan and how protecting built heritage is a crucial part of its future strategy.

Light refreshments will be available for all attendees and it is hoped that a guided visit to Kilshannig Graveyard will be possible after the presentations have concluded at the Club Rooms - weather permitting. Please note, the grounds of the graveyard are uneven and it is unfortunately not fully accessible to all. This event is free of charge but those interested are asked to register for the event by sending an email to mahareesconservation@gmail.com - this will help us plan for catering purposes.

A visit to Kilshannig Graveyard with guided tour by heritage expert will take place after the event has concluded weather permitting.
