Join Jonathan Swift scholar Dr Brendan Twomey on the 18th of August for a talk on Gulliver's Travels.
Gulliver’s Travels, first published in 1726, was written in Dublin by Dr Jonathan Swift, the Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral Dublin, and the founder of St Patrick's Mental Health Services.
Long before that however, Jonathan Swift was a boy in Kilkenny; living at Swift’s Heath with his uncle Godwin Swift and attending Kilkenny College. Now in its 300th year, Gulliver's Travels has been available in more languages and versions than any other book by an Irish author but are we at risk of losing its original intent? Dr Twomey will speak on the themes of the book, explore its relevance today, and more.
