From 1604 to 1690, James Fort played a pivotal role in Kinsales history. This first generation star-shaped fort was designed to intimidate and protect Kinsale town and harbour. it suffered from neglect in times of peace and intense damage during wartime sieges. During its short but exciting history, soldiers, adventurers and pirates marched through its gates.
