Guided Tour of Glenkeen Monastic Heritage Site and Adjoining Graveyard

Borrisoleigh Heritage & Cultural Society invite you to a guided tour of the ancient monastic ruin and graveyard at Glenkeen (near to E41VOO2). Conducted by local historians John Flannery and John Connors, learn about the history of the ancient monastic settlement and some of the notable characters buried in the adjoining graveyard who were prominent at both local and national level.

Glenkeen burial ground is a microcosm or national history, from the final assimilation of the Gaelic Chieftains and the Norman ascendency, through wars, rebellions, revolutions and famines, right up until modern time.

After the completion of the guided tour, Liam Mannix of conservation specialists, "Research and Dig", will give a talk in the local community centre on what progress is being made on the conservation management plan that is being conducted on Glenkeen.
