Guided Tour of Aughris Coastal Walk

21 Lúnasa, 7in - 8:30in

  • Aughris Pier
  • Co. Sligeach

Templeboy Aughris Rural Action (TARA), in conjunction with Sligo County Council, have been instrumental in the continued development of the Aughris Coastal Walk, which is now viewed as one of the premier walks in Sligo.

Join Jacinta Gormley, a founding member of TARA and local resident, on Friday, August 21st at 7pm, on this stunning coastal walk as she guides you by the Promontory Fort, Holy Well, Bird Sanctuary, WWII Lookout Post and finishes in the old Aughris village. Hear the myths and legends of the past, that make up the heritage of this beautiful area, while enjoying the fresh sea air and views.

The walk is approx. 4 km with medium incline, on gravel and grass paths and is suitable for families. Suitable shoes and clothing a must.

Templeboy Aughris Rural Action are always looking for ways to add value and interest to the Aughris Coastal Walk. We are in the process of creating an Information Centre in the World War II Lookout Post located on the walk.

These lookout posts were built in The Emergency and very few still exist. They were strategically placed along the coast to monitor air and sea craft. The Lookout Posts were simple concrete structures, but the people that manned them and their impact on the area is what makes them unique. The Lookout Post will form part of the guided tour.
