The Medieval Architecture of Loughrea Parish

This talk by Garry Dempsey explores the surviving medieval architecture of Loughrea Parish, examining its churches, architectural fragments, and the skilled craftspeople who shaped the built landscape. Drawing on recent archaeological surveys, architectural analysis, and digital recording techniques, it considers the parish's development within the wider context of medieval east Galway and highlights how new technologies are helping to document, interpret, and preserve this important architectural heritage.

About the lecturer: Gary Dempsey is a lecturer at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) abd Co-Founder and Creative Director of Digital Heritage Age (DH_Age). His research focuses on medieval architecture, digital heritage documentation, and applying emerging technologies to cultural heritage preservation. Gary's work combines expertise in archaeology, 3D visualization, photogrammetry, and laser scanning to make heritage more accessible for research, education, and the public.
