Part 1: Community Discussion – Facilitated by Rachel Dempsey, local
resident/educator.
What have we inherited from previous generations and how does this impact us today? How are our different beliefs, traditions, lifestyles changing? How are we stewarding the natural environment? What lasting legacy do we want to leave behind for the generations to come?
This workshop will be a relaxed, friendly space for an open discussion on the concept of heritage. Guided by the official National Heritage Week theme of 'Heritage at Risk', we will explore what is being lost over time and how we can come together in protecting the landmarks, traditions, and ecosystems we value most. Whether you have lived locally for decades or are new to the town, or whether you come from further afield, you are all invited to explore these important themes and questions together.
Part 2: Guest Speaker – Therese Hicks, local author and historian.
Following our group conversation, we are delighted to welcome local author and historian Therese Hicks. Therese will deliver a fascinating talk based on her highly regarded book, No Mere Irish: The Kennedys of Mount Kennedy.
Everyone is welcome. Whether your family has lived in County Wicklow for generations or you have recently moved to the area, or you’re not from these parts but are curious, your voice matters.
Come as you are, bring an open mind and curiosity, and enjoy a warm, neighbourly chat about heritage and the origins of Newtownmountkennedy.
Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.
Children under 12 may not have the patience to stay for whole event.
This event is hosted by fullcirclechange.ie, Rachel Dempsey and Therese Hicks.
It is supported by the Newtownmountkennedy Town Team, Built and Cultural Heritage.
