John Glynn, a researcher and photographer based in West Clare, has spent the past five years compiling an extensive archive of stained glass windows from over 140 sites across County Clare. His research includes work in archives located in Clare, Galway, Dublin, and Limerick. John has made presentations on the stained glass windows of St Senan’s Catholic Church in Kilrush.
County Clare possesses a significant yet largely underappreciated heritage of stained glass, spanning seven centuries from the 14th century to date. John's project documents stained glass windows in both religious and secular locations throughout the county. Notable artists and studios represented include Harry Clarke Studios, An Túr Gloine, Earley & Company, Watsons of Youghal, Murphy-Devitt Studios, Phyllis Burke, George W. Walsh, Willie Earley, and Clare native Catherine O'Brien. Bunratty Castle, in the county, has the largest known body of medieval and pre-19th century stained glass anywhere in Ireland.
