Farming Rathcroghan: Where Farming and Archaeology meets, at Connacht’s Royal Site, Co Roscommon, Ireland
Online talk with Community Archaeologist of Farming Rathcroghan Alan Healy, hosted by The Council for British Archaeology in their This Is Archaeology Series.
This talk draws on the Farming Rathcroghan Project to explore where archaeology and pastoral farming meet, from drystone wall conservation to targeted work on earthen monuments. It examines everyday and seasonal pressures such as weathering, erosion, livestock and machinery, and how conservation can be balanced with farming needs. The talk also considers how wider archaeological research, including infrastructure-led investigations, can place Rathcroghan in a broader regional context and inform future study, while highlighting the importance of long-term community stewardship through engagement with local schools and future farmers.
This talk will be held on Zoom webinar and last approximately 1 hour. The link to join the event will be included in your booking confirmation email.
