Exploring Our Foundations - ‘4 panel Comic’ workshop, the Museum of Childhood Ireland.

Go raibh gáire do chairde mar cheol leat! (Translation: May the laughter of your friends be your music! ) Have you ever belly ached over the last comic panel you read, or eagerly turned a page in anticipation to see how or if a character gets out of a situation? Have you ever wondered if you could make someone feel like this? Could you make someone interested in your retelling of a story or in your original one?... Let’s find out together!

For Heritage Week 2025 the museum's team member Sam Hayes has devised a workshop on the basics of constructing a 4 Panel Comic, and best of all wants you to take home your own 4 panel comic for Heritage Week 2025! The theme invites all to delve into the building blocks of our heritage; not just the structures, but the landscapes and cultural activities that have shaped us, inviting all to reflect on what ‘Exploring Our Foundations’ means to them?

All are invited to explore the techniques of making a comic strip to create their own ‘funnies’, capers or more serious stories. Read the comics with other participants and maybe meet other like minded young and older artists/ storytellers along the way. Join us from 2-4pm on Level 5 in the Lexicon Library, Dúnlaoghaire on Friday 22nd August.
The workshop will also take place at Sticky Fingers Arts in Newry on Saturday 23rd.
