Exploring Our Foundations - ‘4 panel Comic’

Go raibh gáire do chairde mar cheol leat! Translation: May the laughter of your friends be your music! Have you ever belly ached over the last comic panel you read, or eagerly turned a page in anticipation to see how or if a character gets out of a situation, or wanted to retell a tale in your own way, or make a completely original story? And have you ever wondered, could I make someone feel like this? Well let’s find out together!

For Heritage Week 2025’s Exploring Our Foundations, the Museum of Childhood Ireland’s Literature team member Sam Hayes has devised a workshop on the basics of constructing a 4 Panel Comic, and best of all we want all to take home your own 4 panel comic for Heritage Week 2025! The theme invites us to delve into the building blocks of our heritage; not just the structures, but the landscapes and cultural activities that have shaped us. The ‘4 panel Comic’ workshop invites all aged 7 to adult to reflect on the theme for 2025, asking what ‘Exploring Our Foundations’ means to you?

Then as a storytelling medium to develop the ideas, all are invited to explore the techniques of making a comic strip to create their own comic and meet other like minded artists/story gatherers/tellers along the way.
