ESB: Tour of ESB Headquarters

Visitors are welcomed to ESB headquarters at 27 Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, where they will enjoy light refreshments and a short presentation before embarking on a tour of the AAA-BREEAM rated building.

The 60-minute guided tour gives visitors access throughout the building, from ground level to the rooftop terrace, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the city roofscape and the Dublin mountains beyond. Awarded 'Best Workplace' at the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) annual design awards 2023, the ESB headquarters exemplifies the Institute’s ethos: to inspire excellence in architecture and recognize the contribution architects make to the built environment. The design by Grafton Architects and O’Mahony Pike Architects for the ESB headquarters involves an assemblage of interlocking interior and exterior spaces, with multiple level pathways and sunken courtyard gardens. Empathetic to the characteristics of adjacent Georgian buildings, the design seeks to ‘reinstate the unconscious rhythm’ of the Georgian streetscape lost in the 1960s and is made permeable by the addition of a pedestrian walkway connecting Lower Fitzwilliam Street to James’ Street East.

In line with ESB’s "Driven to Make a Difference: Net Zero by 2040" strategy, geothermal piles, roof-mounted solar panels, and efficient energy management systems contribute to the building's sustainability credentials and AAA-BREEAM rating. Occupants of the building also play their part through sustainability initiatives such as a no single-use plastics policy. In the ground floor courtyard, the ESBees help sustain biodiversity and provide Fitzwilliam 27 honey!
