Templeport Development Association and Bawnboy Tidy Towns are delighted to host this wonderfully innovative bat walk event with Cavan County Council Biodiversity and Heritage Office on our dark skies important inhabitants.
Cavan Bat Group member Christopher Liu will be delivering a fun presentation and display full of interesting information on the nocturnal creatures. This will be following a kick sampling display of the freshwater invertebrates that provide food for certain bat species particularly the Daubentons Bat also known affectionately as the "Water Bat". The event will try to convey the importance of interdependency of ecological food web systems with the comparison of the invertebrates and what they mean for water quality locally prior to the bat walk. It should be an interesting and fascinating night full of cool facts like how many insects a bat eats in a night or how to differentiate between Ireland's bat species from Leislers to Common Pipistrelles to Daubentons.
Event is suitable for families but care should be noted given time with road safety paramount for bat walk. Event subject to weather conditions as well on the night. Later finishing time to accommodate time for after sunset to see Bats present.
