Remembering Dr. Tony Claffey. Tuam Historian and Mill Trustee

Launch of the Red Tuam Chair Heritage map and walking trail. This map showcases the public art project which created 11 miniature cast iron Tuam Chair sculptures and placed them high up in areas around the town. The map will invite people to find these chairs and read a little of the history of the places they are placed. The Little Mill is one stop on the map.
A large window display and exhibition in the Brewery Building beside the river Nanny on Shop Street celebrating the history of the Mill and the life of Dr Tony Claffey.
A tree planting ceremony and a talk by present and past committee members on the present situation regarding the Millers Cottage renovation and the need for the Drone Survey funded by the Heritage Council to inspect the roof of the Mill Wheel building which will inform the committee and the public on the necessary steps needed to preserve and protect it.

This event will involve three combined events on Saturday August 22nd 2026

1. Talk highlighting the ongoing progress regarding the upgrading of the Millers Cottage and informing the public of the considerable funding and work needed to restore the Mill building and to make it adaptive as a community space.

2. A memorial tree planting event for Dr Tony Claffey who died last year and who is credited with saving the mill from demolition as well as serving as a Trustee for half a century. Memories of his life from those who knew him on the mill committee.

3. Launch of a Tuam town Heritage Trail map funded by Galway Co Co Heritage office which incorporates the Mill and its park.

4. A large window display in the Brewery Building beside the mill celebrating Dr Claffey's life and involvement with the mill.
