Donegal Mela is a vibrant three-day intercultural arts festival celebrating the rich diversity of communities across Donegal. Blending Irish cultural traditions with global art forms, the festival creates an inclusive, family-friendly space where people of all ages can experience creativity, connection, and community wellbeing.

Centred on Letterkenny’s key cultural venues, the programme features a colourful Bollywood-themed opening night at the Regional Cultural Centre, showcasing dance, music, and participatory performance led by artists from Donegal’s South Asian communities. The energy continues with a full-day takeover of An Grianán Theatre, which becomes a bustling hub of activity. Audiences can enjoy henna, children’s games, craft stalls, food from different cultures, live performances, and a community art exhibition co-created with local groups.

The festival concludes with a large community yoga session at the Vestry, led by an experienced practitioner and designed to promote relaxation, wellbeing, and intergenerational participation.

Across all events, Donegal Mela prioritises accessibility, bilingual engagement and meaningful inclusion of minority ethnic and intercultural communities. By offering free or low-cost activities and co-designed programming, the festival strengthens social cohesion, supports local artists and encourages people to explore creativity in welcoming cultural spaces.
