Aerial imagery of the landscape surrounding Court Abbey, Lavagh, shows a number of earthwork features that were potentially associated with the 15th century Franciscan friary. In July of this year, community volunteers took part in a two week long geophysical survey, on the landscape east of Court. This is a non-invasive method used to discover and map subsurface features and forms part of a five year project to "Discover Court" as part of the communities commitment to the Adopt a Monument Project.

This is a two part event - You are invited to participate in either or both:

2pm - 4pm - Location - Field East of Court Abbey, Lavagh
Visit and field survey demonstrations at the site.
Parking available at graveyard carpark, walk short distance past Court Abbey Graveyard - please note the ground is uneven and suitable footwear is advised and rain gear if necessary.

5pm - 6.30pm - Venue - Knocknashee Community Hub, Lavagh Village
There are a number of notable earthen works present in the field east of Court Abbey. What can these features tell us about the Friary? Join us as we reveal the results of our geophysical survey on the landscape east of Court Abbey and the results of an ecological survey. Followed by refreshments.

This project was possible due to funding by The Heritage Council.
