Welcome, everyone, to our Killygordon heritage event.

Today, we step back in time to explore the unique religious and sporting threads that weave the fabric of Crossroads and Monellan together. Our journey begins at St. Anne’s Church in Monellan. Built in 1833 by Reverend Robert Delap—a former barrister who studied alongside Daniel O’Connell—this church has stood as a quiet witness to local history for nearly two centuries. Today, we have the rare privilege of viewing its original parish records, offering us a direct window into the lives, marriages, and lineages of the families who built this community.

Next, we look to the striking spire of St. Patrick’s Church here in Crossroads. Dedicated in 1875 to replace a smaller 1790 structure, this landmark represents the growth and resilience of our local congregation. Its magnificent gothic belfry, added in 1896, remains a towering symbol of our shared landscape.

Finally, we will gather at the Setanta Hurling Club House. Situated at Ballinacor the Club is the premier hurling and camogie organization in the and Crossroads, Killygordon area.

It is more than a sports venue The club is deeply involved in local development. For example, they partnered with the Donegal County Council to lead a community-funded campaign to build a much-needed footpath to keep pedestrians safe. We honour the generations of players and volunteers who built a legacy.
