Cork’s Athenaeum (the old Cork Opera House) was destroyed by fire in December 1955—but its story began long before that.

Join Pat as he explores the early years of this iconic Cork landmark, revealing how it came to be and the fascinating, “charmed” existence it enjoyed. Discover the influences behind its development: The Royal Cork Institution, Cork's National Exhibition of 1852, and Cork Corporation.

Pat spent his career in IT before earning a Diploma and a Master’s degree in Local History from University College Cork. He is currently writing a book on Cork’s Old Opera House, due for publication later this year. All welcome.
