Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland

As part of National Heritage Week 2026 and this year's theme "Heritage at Risk", Galway Civic Trust invites you to join us for a special guided visit to the Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

While heritage is often associated with historic buildings, monuments and manuscripts, the technologies that transformed our homes, schools, workplaces and communications are also an important part of our shared cultural heritage. The Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland, located in the Data Science Institute at the University of Galway's North Campus, is the only museum of its kind in Ireland, preserving and interpreting the story of computing and communications technology over the past century.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a remarkable collection of historic radios, rotary telephones, typewriters, cameras, Morse equipment and vintage computers, including iconic machines such as the DEC PDP-11 and Apple II. The museum's popular retro gaming area features classic titles including Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Asteroids, offering a hands-on journey through the history of digital entertainment.

This year's visit will also include the museum's fascinating Space Exploration Exhibition, which celebrates the pioneering era of human spaceflight from the 1950s to the 1980s.

This engaging and interactive visit offers a unique opportunity to discover how technological innovation has shaped modern society and why preserving this recent heritage is so important for future generations.
