‘Cilliní of Louisburgh and Killeen: Traditional Practices and Archaeology’
Louisburgh Killeen Heritage presents a documentary film for National Heritage Week
A cillín is a burial ground for infants who were stillborn or died prior to baptism, but also for adults who were victims of suicide and famine, the mentally disabled, criminals and the excommunicated among others
After extensive research, Deirdre McGuirk presents her findings of the cilliní that can be found in our parish of Kilgeever. Featuring interviews and stories from the community, this documentary sheds light on the traditional practices that would have surrounded cilliní. Stunning videography captures the archaeological landscape of some sites.
This project is funded by iCAN, Irish Community Archive Network, a National Museum of Ireland initiative delivered in partnership with the Heritage Council.
This documentary contains themes of infant and adult death.
