Changing Tides: Bere Island Heritage Fest

Join us for a family-friendly day of discovery on Bere Island!

Travel by ferry to Bere Island before taking part in a guided Streamscapes Seashore Exploration at Cloughland Strand. Discover the fascinating plants and animals that call the coastline home, learn about the importance of healthy marine habitats, and help care for the shoreline by joining a Clean Coasts beach litter pick.

After a lunch break, a free shuttle bus will bring participants to the Bere Island Heritage Centre for an afternoon of engaging activities. Enjoy hands-on arts and crafts, watch the inspiring documentary SEAGRASS: The Hidden Life Beneath Our Shores by ZWAI, and explore the story of Bantry Bay's Blue Dot with LAWPRO. Learn how seagrass meadows support biodiversity, improve water quality, store carbon and help build resilient coastal ecosystems.

Whether you're passionate about nature, interested in local heritage, or looking for a fun day out with family and friends, this event offers a unique opportunity to connect with Bere Island's rich natural and cultural heritage.

10:30am – Ferry departs Pontoon, Castletown-Bearhaven
11:00am – Streamscapes Seashore Exploration & Clean Coasts litter pick at Cloughland Strand
1:00pm – Free shuttle bus to Bere Island Heritage Centre
1:00–1:30pm – Lunch break
1:30pm – Arts and crafts, SEAGRASS: The Hidden Life Beneath Our Shores documentary, and Bantry Bay Blue Dot presentation with LAWPRO
4:30pm – Return ferry
