Celebrating the River Bride: Heritage, Biodiversity & Tradition

23 Lúnasa, 2in - 6in

  • Aghern River Bank
  • Co. Corcaigh - Contae

Join us in Aghern on Sunday 23 August for a free afternoon celebrating the heritage, traditions and natural environment of the Bride River and surrounding area.

Following the success of last year’s nationally award-winning kayaking event, this year’s Water Heritage Day will explore our local heritage through history, traditional skills, music and biodiversity.

Programme

2.00pm – Welcome & Local History
Welcome address followed by a talk on the history of Aghern and the Bride River.

3.00pm – Angling & Fly-Tying
Demonstration of traditional angling and fly-tying skills.

4.00pm – Willow Weaving
A demonstration of the traditional craft of willow weaving.

5.00pm – Local Biodiversity
A talk exploring the biodiversity of our locality and the importance of our waterways.

Live music will feature throughout the afternoon, with a variety of musicians performing between the activities.

A coffee van serving sweet treats and an ice-cream vendor will be on site.

Local history books, handmade willow items and Conna Castle souvenir mugs will also be available to purchase.

The event is free to attend, with refreshments and items available to purchase separately. Visitors are encouraged to bring cash, although card payment will also be available.

Come along, enjoy the music and demonstrations, and discover more about the heritage, traditions and natural environment of our local area.
