The church of the Holy Spirit, Doonaha, is a protected structure built in 1803. It is one of the oldest churches still in use in the Diocese of Killaloe. This church was extensively repaired in 1861 by Fr. Michael Meehan, who was associated with the Little Ark in Kilbaha.
The area around Doonaha is rich in cultural heritage and is the birthplace of Eoghan ó Comhraidhe, the eminent Irish philologist, scholar, antiquary and first Professor of Irish History and Archaeology in the Catholic University, Dublin, 1854.
Doonaha is also the home of poet Seán de hÓra, author of the famous 'Aithrighe', a work of 12 verses, composed in 1778.
Esteemed third-generation genealogist, Dr. Paddy Waldron will be guest speaker and a live performance of traditional music and singing will form part of this event.
This event will provide an opportunity to share the rich heritage of the area with the community and to preserve it for future generations.
