Traditional hand weaving in Ireland—most notably the production of authentic Donegal Tweed and Irish linen damask—faces a critical succession risk. With the average age of master handweavers hovering around 75, the loss of specialized skills such as loom tuning, warping, and finishing threatens this centuries-old heritage.

Bréidín Na Bóinne celebrates the timeless craft of hand weaving natural wool on traditional looms in an Irish speaking community and makes an important contribution to the preservation of these at risk traditional crafts. Join Anna and Simon in the Thomas MacDonagh Museum where as part of local Heritage Week activities they will install a traditional loom, demonstrating and speaking on their craft and invite visitors to interact with and discover the traditional art of craft weaving.

Tuesday, 18th – Drop-in Weaving Demonstration, 6.30pm to 8.00pm
Wednesday, 19th – Information Evening, Talk and Short Film, 7.00pm to 9.00pm
Thursday, 20th – Drop-in Weaving Demonstration, 3.30pm to 5.00pm
Friday, 21st – Drop-in Weaving Demonstration, 10.30am to 12.00 noon

Simon and Anna will present a special variation of their acclaimed A Weaver's Scéal (A Weaver's Story), which they currently offer at their homeplace, Bréidín na Bóinne (Boyne Valley Tweed), in the Rath Cairn Gaeltacht.
