Cashel Man - Ireland's Oldest Bog Body Commemoration
Cashel Man – Ireland’s Oldest Bog Body Commemoration Event
Laois Friends warmly invites the community to a special Heritage Week event commemorating Cashel Man – Ireland’s oldest fleshed bog body, on 20th August at the Rambling House Community Centre, Cashel, Portlaoise R32 F24E.
Cashel Man is one of Ireland’s most remarkable archaeological discoveries, offering a unique connection to life, ritual and belief in Bronze Age Ireland. Found at Cashel Bog, Co. Laois, this extraordinary discovery has placed the local area at the heart of an internationally important heritage story.
We are delighted to welcome Isabella Mulhall, from the Bog Bodies Research Project at the National Museum of Ireland, as our guest speaker. Isabella will share insights into the significance of Cashel Man, the wider story of Ireland’s bog bodies, and what these discoveries tell us about our ancient past.
The event will also include the unveiling of a new Cashel Man commemorative sculpture, created to mark this important piece of local and national heritage and to provide a lasting point of interest for the community and visitors to Rockview Walkways and the Rambling House.
This Heritage Week event is open to all and will be of interest to anyone with a love of history, archaeology, local heritage, community heritage projects, or the unique landscape of the Irish bogs.
Everyone is very welcome to attend and join us in celebrating this extraordinary heritage story from Co. Laois.
