CALM Waters by Monaghan Hills!

Come along and celebrate Water Heritage Day during National Heritage Week in KIllanny. Discover the rich history and important work of your local group water scheme, learn the importance of source water protection and find about the new CALM (Catchment Action for Local Management) project.

The CALM project is a six partner cross border environmental river restoration project North and South led by East Border Region with co partners the Loughs Agency, Ulster University, Agri-Food Business Institute (AFBI), Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council (ABC) and Inland Fisheries Ireland (iFI).

The CALM Project through Inland Fisheries Ireland as responsible partner agency aims to work closely with local landowners to protect and improve water quality, biodiversity and habitats within the Glyde catchment.

The day will include speakers from the local Killanny Reaghstown Group Water Scheme, the CALM project Catchment Officer on the Glyde Cathal Flood from Inland Fisheries Ireland and Rachel Hannon, Source Protection Officer with the National Federation of Group Water Schemes on the day along with a live water quality display looking at freshwater biology and chemistry. The project and event is facilitated by Inland Fisheries Ireland and supported by PeacePLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). Lets celebrate our local water heritage and find out how we can all play a part in protecting our precious water resources.

Please wear appropriate clothing for weather on day and note that spaces are limited at Monalty lake, so booking is essential. Carpooling from a nearby location may be arranged depending on numbers with light refreshments provided afterewards.
