Cúpla Snáithe invites you to discover the overlooked history and vibrant future of native Irish textiles. Once a thriving industry protected by ancient Brehon Laws, Irish fibre production was historically dismantled by trade restrictions like the Wool Act and the eventual rise of synthetics. Today, our community movement bridges these missing supply chain links by reframing native fibres as a medium for modern cultural restoration. Designed for artists, makers, and heritage enthusiasts, this event introduces our "fibre-mixing" philosophy. By encouraging creatives to use just 5% native Irish fibre for decorative stitching, darning, or statement details, we bypass industry supply barriers and champion the local circular economy.
Participants will enjoy an immersive, branded visual presentation tracing our textile history, followed by a practical workshop using a curated Cúpla Snáithe craft kit complete with native fibre samples and essential mending tools.
