All About Bogs – Walk & Talk, Liffey Head Bog, Led by Andrea Webb

Bogs are an ever changing natural wonder and are among the most important habitats in the world, designated as priority habitats by the EU due to their scarcity in Europe. They are not only beautiful and biodiverse habitats, but they also play a vital role in carbon sequestration.

This year, The Shaking Bog is finally making its way up onto the very boglands that gave the organisation its name, to more closely explore this landscape at the very summit of the Glencree Valley.

Guided by uplands expert Andrea Webb, Conservation Ranger at Wicklow Mountains National Park, people will learn about the precious biodiversity specific to bogs and the importance of their protection and restoration.

A beautiful time of year to visit the heather clad boglands of County Wicklow, as the shifting light and carpets of pink and mauve will be truly spectacular.

Moderate trail with some uneven ground. Sturdy shoes required and dress for all weathers. No dogs (except guide dogs) are permitted. Leave no trace. Andrea Webb is a NPWS Conservation Ranger, previously of Knocksink Nature Reserve SAC, and now serving the Wicklow Mountains National Park. She has expertise in nature and peatland restoration, woodland conservation in sensitive designated landscapes, and early wildfire detection.
