It’s a June morning in 1944, in the midst of the Emergency, and the train for Stranorlar is about to depart from Donegal Station. Witness the conversations and tribulations of a colourful cast of characters working and traveling on the railway as they prepare to make the journey towards Barnesmore Gap!

This is the setting of this site-specific, promenade-style play by Maura Logue of Dark Daughter Productions, a celebrated purveyor of ‘animated histories’ that seek to bring our heritage to life in ways that are equal parts informative and hilarious. All Aboard the Wee Donegal is a raucous comedy that invokes the concerns of its time, from conflict, fuel shortages, and strict social norms to cows calving at inopportune moments. Performed across the site of the very station in which it is set and with real County Donegal Railway carriages, vans and a steam engine serving as the setting, this is a wonderful way to experience how a day in Donegal might have played out 80 years ago.

Performances at 2pm; 3pm; and 4pm.

This production by Dark Daughter was generously supported by Donegal County Council and Creative Ireland’s Culture and Creativity Award.

Booking essential! This event is family friendly and free, but a suggested donation of €5 per person helps support our work in the museum.
