As part of National Heritage Week the Private Security Authority will open its historic Tipperary Town building to the public.
Now home to the Private Security Authority, the building has served the town for 150 years. Originally built as a Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks, it later became a Garda station before taking on its current role as the home of the PSA. This event offers visitors the rare opportunity to step inside the building and learn more about the buildings changing role over the last 150 years.
The building will be open to the public from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m., with staff providing brief guided tours throughout the afternoon.
At 2.00 p.m., guest speaker Dr. John Reynolds will give a talk on the history of the former RIC barracks that later became Garda stations, with a particular focus on this building in Tipperary Town.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore parts of the building, hear about its past and present , and learn how one local landmark has evolved from barracks, to Garda station, to the modern home of the Private Security Authority.
All are welcome to attend. As this is a 150-year old historic building, wheelchair access may be limited in certain areas. However staff will be available on the day to assist visitors with mobility needs, and the building has external and internal lift access to help support access where possible.
