The Clonmel Show & Tipperary Museums Town Farm presents: This video is featured within a larger Programme that celebrates traditional wool craft practices, exploring the connections between sheep, wool, spinning, weaving, and felting.

Knitted garments have been part of human society for centuries, as evidenced by museum collections around the world. Join lifelong knitting enthusiast Leisa Gray for an inspiring talk and demonstration exploring the wide range of techniques and traditions found within the craft of knitting, and why there is always something new to discover.

Leisa has used knitting as a tool for community building and wellbeing, working with groups across the UK and Ireland to support better health, foster social connections, and even help people manage pain. Drawing on her extensive experience, she will explore the role of knitting throughout history and across cultures, as well as consider the current state of the Irish wool industry.

This fascinating talk offers insights into both the rich heritage and the enduring relevance of knitting today.
The event is part of Hands of Heritage 2026, Tipperary Museum of Hidden History's award-winning programme celebrating traditional skills and living heritage.
