A Journey Through Time: Exploring the Past Through the Flow of Water.
Celebrate Water Heritage Day as we join local historian and explorer Susan Garett for an engaging talk as she shares her upcoming journey along the Goul River, exploring how natural heritage and human history weave together through the flow of water. This event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on how rivers connect us to the past, shape our landscapes, and carry the legacy of the communities that live along their banks.
On the day, Tory Berber, Learning Engagement Officer with Nore Vision, will lead a citizen science exploration on the Goul. Participants will learn about river ecology and take part in kick sampling techniques, helping to assess the health of the waterway. We'll be on the lookout for indicator species such as the Green Caddisfly, Mayfly, and Stonefly—positive signs of a thriving river ecosystem.
Supported by LAWPRO and Urlingford Town Team, this event promises to be both educational and enjoyable—a chance to connect with nature, share river stories, and discover the vital role of community in protecting our water resources. Together, we can deepen our understanding and appreciation of the Goul River and contribute to improving water quality for generations to come. Meet at Exit 4 , Urlingford to walk to the Mill Graveyard. Contact maura@norevision.ie for details
