Traidisiúin na Farraige (bilingual)

20 August, 7:30pm - 9:30pm

  • Oideas Gael
  • An Clachán agus Oideas Gael, Gleann Cholm Cille
  • Co. Donegal

Southwest Donegal is renowned for its fishing heritage. Seafaring expeditions shaped the folklore stories, customs, sean-nós songs, traditional music tunes and the spoken tongue.

Numerous scholars who conducted research in the region of Gleann Cholm Cille and Teileann during the 20th century observed a distinct seafaring influence ‘blas na farraige’ on the dialect of spoken Irish. In acknowledging such a rich and varied maritime heritage, this event reflects on both past and present oral accounts of local fishermen beginning with a tour of ‘Teach an Iascaire’ in The Folk Village followed by a discussion panel in Oideas Gael.
