Tom McGrath, a native of Portlaw, was captured by German forces in 1940 and held for two years in a prison camp in Poland. Why not take the time to hear about one of the most daring escapes of WW 2.

His son, Tom McGrath Jr., has only recently learned of his fathers heroic solo escape and subsequent journey home. Tom Sr. spent months hiding in Berlin and Paris, before climbing over the Pyrenees and into Spain. There he was thrown into a concentration camp before eventually securing his freedom and returning to his family in Portlaw. Tom McGrath, Jr. has travelled extensively in an attempt to piece together a family puzzle that could so easily have eluded him forever.
