Ellen Hutchins Festival event: Plant hunting with time & place in mind. Where in the world do garden plants come from & when did they come to Irish gardens? Does anything survive from Ellen’s Garden?

In the early 1800s, Ellen was given plants & seeds for her garden by James Mackay, botanist at Trinity College Dublin’s Botanic Garden. How many of the plants now in the SeaView House garden were available to Ellen & Irish gardeners of her time? Are there any garden plants that Ellen or James Mackay mention that are still growing on Ellen’s home territory? With Astrid Wingler, Professor of Plant Biology at UCC, help answer these questions & learn more about garden plants.
