Lecture by Paul Stevens on the archaeological finds at the early Christian monastic site at Clonfad, Co.westmeath. Field trip to Durrow Abbey, Leamonaghan Monastic site, and St.Manchan's Shrine.

'Clonfad and its place in early medieval monastic Ireland: new archaeological research on the economy of the early Irish church.' by Paul Stevens, IRC-funded PhD scholar, UCD School of Archaeology. The discovery of the manufacture of the iconic early Christian Hand Bell at Clonfad has had a significant impact on our understanding of Early Christian Ireland. A visit to nearby monastic sites will enhance our appreciation of the Craftsmanship and life style of people in early Christian Ireland.
