Enjoy a guided walk retracing the footsteps of local soldiers who fought in World War I and hear some of the history of the two ’big houses’, Moyvoughly House and Newtown House.
In the Moyvoughly area sixteen men signed up with the British Arm. Twelve as a direct consequence of the War and four were already serving with the army. Two families had three brothers each (the Deignans and the Sweeneys) and two had two brothers each (the Connollys and the Wards). Extensive research has been done to piece together the lives of these brave men, some of whom paid the ultimate price in the fight for freedom a century ago. Come and enjoy our historical walk.
