17 August, 1pm - 4pm
A special recital on the 49 bell carillon will be given by Adrian Gebruers resident carilloneur. The carillon of the Cathedral is the only such instrument in Ireland.
Visitors can view the Carillon being played on a screen located within the Cathedral. However this instrument is best heard outdoors, particularly from the car park located to the north of the Cathedral. The largest bell is 3.6 tons (3,666 kg.) and the total weight of all the bells is 26 tons (26,417 kg.). The instrument is played from a console located within the belfry consisting of a keyboard and a pedalboard. Carillon bells do not move in performance. The Cobh Carillon was installed in 1916.
