This year we discovered and shared history and heritage on our doorstep. We organised all our events observing social distancing and Covid19 guidelines while bringing Heritage to our community.
The Tipperary Town Heritage Group teamed up with the Tipperary Town Classic Cars community, displaying classic cars from the past and providing information to young and old. We conducted historic tours of Dalton House and areas of the town. We hosted two online fireside music sessions as well as allowing individuals and families to experience times past. We had a visit from Polly the Parrot, born in 1890 and known in the area for her colourful language in Touhy's bar across the road from our Heritage centre; in her time she attracted visitors from far and wide.
With the help of some members of the local community, we gave a fresh look to Dalton House established in 1890 in New Tipperary; built as part of the plan of Campaign. We also recorded two video tours of St Mary's historic graveyard and church and had a great local response. We had plans to share more local history videos, but were impeded by the weather. During National Heritage Week, we had huge support and visits from members of the local community.
