Sand Martins in and around Athlone

This short video looks at Sand Martins along the Shannon in and around Athlone. It was filmed in Summer 2023 and Spring 2024 as part of a project to raise awareness of Sand Martins. A series of nest boxes were installed to help support the population of Sand Martins. The project was funded under the Local Biodiversity action Fund from National Parks and Wildlife, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage with support from Westmeath County Council. Filming was done under license from NPWS.
