Reimagining Magh Airgid Rois- The Plain of the Silver Birch

  • Co. Kilkenny

Reimagining Magh Airgid Rois;
“A Journey through Landscape and Time”
The Plain of the Silver Birch can be approximately identified as the North Ossory Plain, stretching from the Northern Nore across North Kilkenny and borderland areas in Tipperary and Laois comprising Freshford, Urlingford, Lisdowney, Gathabawn, Johnstown, Galmoy, Gortnahoe, Glengoole and Cullahill
This project brought together stakeholders and heritage keepers from across the area to create this wonderful video exploring the landscape and mapping a heritage route across the plain
Evaluation and Learnings
We have strengthened our connections with other heritage keepers and have formed a valuable community of interest to develop the project.
We had tentatively viewed the project to be a multi-phased project depending on the level of engagement and sense of shared identity uncovered as the process continued and now feel we are in the position to embark on further developments.
The collaborative approach taken in this project proved to be successful both within the project executive team where a “shared drive approach” was in use vis a vis ideas and compositions and within the wider community as is manifest in the success of the community engagement events.
The project management proved to be a mammoth task and very time consuming for the voluntary members of the executive team.
In future we will consider including management element in project planning
Next Steps
Re-engage with the project stakeholders and wider communities and develop a plan to prioritise and use the recommendations from the audit to further the project.
