
Online programme of virtual tours, videos and exhibitions to celebrate local heritage and history

Derry City and Strabane District Council will share a series of virtual tours, videos and exhibitions on our social media chanels, which explore the heritage and history of the Council area.
The City Walls, the River Foyle, Strabane Heritage Trail, the iconic Guildhall and The Tower Museum will all feature during the week. A number of the Museums Exhibitions including Shirts, Singers & Sewing: A Shirt Factory exhibition, Divided Ireland and Walls 400 will feature and tie in with this years theme- Living Heritage. They provide a glimpse into life in Derry during these periods, exploring social history, popular culture and politics.
The online programme aims to bring together communities, families, organisations, cultural institutions, academics and enthusiasts to build awareness about the value and importance of understanding of our local heritage.
The programme includes the Strabane Heritage Trail and virtual tours of the Guildhall will uncover the building's many hidden gems, including its grand staircase, main hall organ, collection of stunning stained glass windows, and the Guildhall clock and tower.
Information will be available to learn about the City’s Walls and the historic cannons which sit on them and which are currently being repainted with grant assistance from the Heritage Council.
We will also share some of our past heritage projects such as our short animation ‘Oh City City on the Foyle’ which explores the history of the famous Walled City steeped in generations of history with many of the buildings and structures from our past still intact and in use today.
