A series of short films were created by young people from Laois about their sense of place and what inspires them during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown. In these short films, 26 young Laois people reflect on their sense of place through the media of music, dance, spoken word and how they are inspired by biodiversity and their local libraries.
Leading the sense of place project are:
Barbara Sullivan on behalf of the Irish Wildlife Trust Laois/ Offaly Branch investigates with children how nature roots us in the landscape and is a key element of our sense of place.
With broadcaster and filmmaker Ann Marie Kelly, members of Laois County Library Service tell us how libraries for them are a hub of creativity, learning and communication.
Erica Borges, working with young people from Laois Youth Dance Ensemble in developing creativity and dance skills.
Tutors Dale McKay and Sarah Troy from Music Generation Laois explore with young musicians the places around them and incorporate the sounds of that place.
Alex Rosiak, working with young people from Laois Youth Theatre to create a video journey mapping physical and emotional spaces.
Created by the Laois Culture Team as part of the Creative Ireland programme in Laois for Cruinniu na nÓg 2020, Ireland's National day of Creativity for Children. The films were funded by Creative Ireland. Edited by Michael Fortune.
