Cavan Landed Estates, c.1700-c.1914, some historical sources

  • Co. Cavan

The Irish Landed Estates project has been collating resources on the history of Irish landed estates since 2005. The database is intended as a signpost for historians, genealogists, community researchers and many other scholars. It provides short descriptions of estate history and details of owners. Location details for houses that formed part of estates are included. Where available, we have used images of houses and other estate architecture created by our fellow researchers on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/ )

Archival, contemporary and modern printed sources are outlined. In 2022 the project researchers were delighted to receive a grant from the Heritage Council which enabled them to extend their research into three Ulster counties, Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan. This data is now available to search on the database at https://landedestates.ie/. To complement this, the researchers have created three Powerpoint presentations (one for each county), providing further details on some of the sources used to construct the estate entries.
