Wildflower Walk and Talk Along the Barrow
This year’s Heritage Week theme is Living Heritage. Nowhere can we reconnect with our heritage more than in the plants in our hedgerow. These are the same plants our forebears foraged for food, tools, and medicine. They're part of the fabric of our stories and support our lives just the same today. Today they are largely forgotten, invisible workhorses keeping our world turning.
This Heritage Week reconnect with nature as you learn how to ID our native wildflowers and hear their stories. We’ll be walking along the canal at Milford weir, joining the Barrow, tracing our history back and learning about our biodiversity. We’ll be sharing the uses of plants past and present including whether they’re edible or not. Refreshments are kindly being provided by Ballinabranna/Milford/Raheendoran Development Group and there will be some sustainable foraged snacks on hand.
Meeting at the Barrow Brew. Please wear appropriate clothing for our lovely Irish summers. As this event is beside a river, the path may be muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear. We are limiting this event to 15 people. More details and register on Bare Necessities Facebook page.
This event is sponsored by the Local Authority Waters Programme.
