
Wild Child Day in the park

An family-friendly afternoon in the park with two nature walks:
- 1.15 pm: Louise Garcia taking you on a wildlife safari along the banks of the Suir aided by cutting edge technology accessed through your smartphone. Younger participants will hunt for insects using nets while parents or guardians download three apps, the National Biodiversity Centre recording app, Cornell University’s Merlin app and Obsidentify. A group walk round the park will include opportunities to record birdsong and identify the birds responsible using the Merlin bioacoustics app to aid the identification and enjoyment of local birds. The pros and cons of the AI app Obsidentify will be explained and participants will practise photographing wild flowers and insects and using the app to suggest possible identifications. Suitable from age 5.
- 2.30: Aìne Lynch from Birdwatch Ireland will host a walking talk on biodiversity and its importance for the habitat, welfare and preservation of birds. Suitable for older children (12+) and adults.
This event is in conjunction with Clonmel Applefest's two nature related workshops and scything demonstration, taking place on the same day in the park from 1pm to 4pm. First come, first served.
