Voices from 50 Pope's Quay (Work-in-Progress)
As part of Cork Heritage Open Day and National Heritage Week 2025, Civic Trust House invites members of the public to attend a special work-in-progress event offering insight into a new project exploring the history of 50 Pope’s Quay and its neighbourhood.
Built c.1720, 50 Pope’s Quay is one of the earliest surviving Georgian buildings in Cork. Once home to merchants, a hospital, and later a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary, it has served many purposes over the centuries. Since 2006, it has housed Civic Trust House, a shared base for arts organisations in the city.
With funding from The Heritage Council, and in collaboration with historian Victoria Kingston, Strive Theatre Company, and the Cork Folklore Project, we are undertaking a programme of research and creative interpretation to uncover the social and architectural history of this remarkable building.
During this drop-in event, visitors will hear about the project's aims, preview emerging findings, and meet some of the team involved. This is an informal sharing rather than a final presentation, offering a rare opportunity to observe the early stages of a public heritage project.
All are welcome. No booking required.
