Who:
Maker Juliane Gorman is an American feltmaker living in the Dundrum neighbourhood of Dublin. She crafts colourful and unique wet-felted headwear for adults, combining traditional techniques with modern creativity. These hats are more than just accessories; they are pieces of wearable art, each telling a story of heritage, sustainability, and innovation.
Come witness the magic in her 'Felting Forge' (a small shed in her backyard), where fluffy wool fibres are transformed into stunning three-dimensional felt using soapy water and gentle massage!
What: The Mysteries of Feltmaking
Have you ever accidentally shrunk a natural wool sweater by tossing it into a washing machine? The hot water and agitation cause the garment to shrink - sometimes so much that it will now only fit a doll!
Feltmaking uses similar principles but in a more controlled and gentle manner. Witness this magic as feltmaker Juliane Gorman expertly layers wool fibre from sustainable, Irish-grown sheep. Next, she sprinkles warm, soapy water and then carefully massages to transform the loose fibres into stunning three-dimensional felted hats. It's a genuinely mesmerising process that will captivate your imagination!
Additionally, handcrafted hats in various styles and colours will be displayed!

Juliane's open studio is for one day only - Sunday, the 25th of August.
