Historical Talk & unveiling of a new Information Sign at 'Illaunagowan Point' Shannon
Historic Talk at Shannon River Walk
We are excited to unveil our new information sign at Shannon's beauty spot along the River Walk at Illaunagowan Point. We are very lucky to have this beautiful area to call our own. Locals have looked out over this river for generations and we hope this information sign will help with getting their bearings of where they stand on the mighty river Shannon and what exactly they can see across the water. The history is part of what makes an area and we hope this fulfils that interest including the curiosity of what you can see in the distance. Tourists to the area will also gain a clearer understanding of our scenic walk.
Dawn Adams of Shannon Tidy Towns has worked on this project for a few years now with John O'Brien our local historian of Duchas na Sionna. John will give a historic talk on the day during Heritage Week. It is the perfect week to encourage all residents to come out and meet with each other and learn something new perhaps about their home town.
Tea/Coffee and a treat will be provided.
Bring a chair or blanket if you like to be comfortable for the talk.
We will meet at the end of Illanagowan Point at the picnic bench's.
Shannon Tidy Towns received funding for this project through, 'The Community Water Development Fund' which is administered by Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) on behalf of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
We would like to thank the Shannon Municipal District ( Clare County Council) for permission to place the sign and for installing it for us.
Thank you to Creo Signs in Smithstown for their design and production.
Thank you to John Drysdale for photos.
