Tours of Huntington Castle, Co. Carlow, in association with Historic Houses of Ireland
Huntington Castle, Clonegal, County Carlow, the ancient seat of the Esmonde family, is one of Ireland's historical treasures. Presently lived in by four generations of the Durdin-Robertson family, descendents of the Esmondes, the castle is set in picturesque countryside at the foot of the Blackstairs mountains.
Built in 1625 on the site of a former 14th century stronghold and abbey, the castle has something to offer everyone. Features include lovely Victorian terraces, a temple to the Egyptian Goddess Isis in the undercroft, an ancient yew walk and 17th century formal gardens which date from the Esmonde’s tenure. There is also a Woodland Playground and a tea room.
